Happy Landing
HAPPY LANDING

(Comedy | Musical | Sport)
[1 hour 42 minutes]

The Bride's Fair in a small Norwegian village is interrupted
by the forced landing of Jimmy Hall and Duke Sargent, two
Americans lost - really, really lost - while flying from
New York to Paris. Jimmy is the manager of Duke, a
publicity-seeking band leader. An old superstition points to
Duke as the appointed husband-to-be (not likely) of Trudy
Ericksen, daughter of villager Herr Ericksen. Duke, however,
has an understanding with Flo Kelly back in the states, and
leaves for Paris. Trudy follows him to New York, only to find
he has left for Florida with Flo. Jimmy takes Trudy skating
in Central Park, falls in love with her and is so impressed
that he gets her a contract to skate professionally. Duke
hears of her success and flies back and begins a series of
romantic entanglements.

THE SINGING COP

(Musical | Comedy | Spy Drama)
[1 hour 18 minutes]

A temperamental opera diva arouses official suspicion that she
is a spy, secretly gathering classified information to pass to
enemy agents. A policeman who happens to be a talented amateur
singer is sent undercover to join the opera company and try to
find out whether there is any substance to the allegations.
Once there, an immediate attraction springs up between the
policeman and a female member of the company. But the diva
also sets her sights on him and, used to getting what she
wants, becomes the bitter rival-in-love of the other singer.
The policeman lets his lady friend into his confidence, and
the pair set about sleuthing. They finally prove that all
the suspicions were justified and the diva is indeed a
foreign agent.

Daniel Francis O'Toole, singing maestro in a New York restaurant,
finds himself the unexpected heir to an estate in Ireland. He
doesn't have money enough for the passage to Ireland, but the band
members decide to incorporate him, advancing him the fare for
equal shares in the estate. In Ireland, Danny finds that his is
only a half-share, and the other half belongs to Mavourneen
Kerrigan and she has the exclusive right to sell or keep the
property...which, despite his pleas, she refuses to do. She also
declares him an undesired guest, objects to his presence and
insists that he prepare his own meals. He does so in a large main
hall, but can only make hamburgers. During a rainstorm,
Dorothy Stonewall and her parents, seek shelter in the castle,
meet Danny there, and are invited to dine with him...on
hamburgers. They find hamburgers to be a delicious novelty, and
the inspired Danny establishes Ireland's first fast-food
operation (in a castle, at least), and soon he has a thriving ...

Ted wishes to enroll in school under an assumed name but
Sam, hoping to nip his school plans in the bud, tips off

He soon incurs the enmity of Biff Gordon, the school's

Mary Robbins is a moderately educated, beautiful, young
woman who owns the saloon called "The Poker". She is the
only woman in the town of Cloudee-making her the fancy of
all the men there, especially to Sheriff Jack Rance. On the
way to Monterey to sing at a mass officiated by Father Sienna,
her stagecoach is held up by the infamous masked bandit,
Ramerez. He too takes a fancy to Mary, and decides to secretly
follow her, taking on the identity of an officer named,
Lieutenant Johnson. While in Monterey, he dances, sings and
courts Mary, who has now fallen in love with him. He then
has to make a quick getaway. In the mean-time, Sheriff Jack
has set up a trap to catch Ramerez at "The Poker".
When Ramerez does arrive he soon discovers that Mary is
the owner, and quickly changes to the identity of
Lieutenant Johnson. How long can this sherade last?

Herman Bahr's German play +The Yellow Nightingale from 1907
become Paramount's 1938 entry in the then-popular operetta
cycle. Gladys Swarthout, formerly of the Met, stars as
Ilona Boros, a peasant girl with a magnificent voice who becomes
a pawn in the rivalry between opera tenor Tony Kovach
(John Boles) and his business manager Zoltan Jason
(John Barrymore). Both men are infatuated with the beautiful,
but cold, Countess Foldessy (Claire Dodd), and Tony plans to
make Ilona a star so that Jason will be attracted to her
instead. The scheme backfires, of course, and soon both men
are fighting over Ilona, the outraged countess left to
instead pursue Jason's butler, Von Hemisch (Curt Bois). In
between the comedy, Swarthout, Boles, and company perform
such well-known selections as "Because," from the opera
+Jocelyn; "Habanera," from +Carmen; "La Ci Darem la Nano,"
from +Don Giovanni; and Ralph Rainger and Leo Robin's
"Tonight We Love."

Carla de Hulvea is a rumba dancer who makes news by posing as
a South-American heiress. She is doing fine with her hoax until
she meets American Peter Jackson, a high-pressure promoter who
is looking for movie-producing money. He does some big-time
bluffing on his own in order to get Carla to invest in a film
he is making with his partner, Roy Harley. Through Carla, Roy
meets actress Diana West, who is given a role in the movie,
and Roy falls in love with her. Before Carla and Peter have
finished outsmarting each other, there is a merry mix-up which

Cowboy from Brooklyn
COWBOY FROM BROOKLYN

(Comedy | Musical | Sport | Western)
[1 hour 17 minutes]

Brooklyn crooner Elly Jordan and his bandmates end up broke
at a Wyoming dude ranch run by Jane Hardy. Singing for his
supper there, Elly is heard by Broadway booker Roy Chadwick,
who mistakes him for a genuine cowboy and decides to make
him a star. The fact that Elly is terrified of animals

Sing You Sinners
SING YOU SINNERS

(Comedy | Drama | Music | Romance)
[1 hour 28 minutes]

Of the singing Beebe brothers, young Mike just wants to be a
kid; responsible Dave wants to work in his garage and marry
Martha; but feckless Joe thinks his only road to success is
through swapping and gambling. It seems the only thing all
three can join in is their singing act, which Mike and Dave
hate. Finally, all Joe's hopes are pinned on a race horse
he's acquired, but it's a bigger gamble than his family
knows. Hilarious sequence involving a lecturer on seals.

Accident-prone George Brown (George Formby) is rejected
by the Home Guard because he can't tell his left from
his right. However, when a pal in the RAF forgets some
very important documents George dons a uniform and takes
them to the base, where he is mistaken for a dispatch
rider. George soon finds it is easier to get into the air
force than it is to get out, but finds some compensation
when he meets his Sergeant Major's pretty daughter.

That Certain Age
THAT CERTAIN AGE

(Comedy | Musical)
[1 hour 35 minutes]

Dashing reporter Vincent Bullit has just returned from covering
the Spanish Civil War. His boss, newspaper magnate Fullerton,
has more plans to send him off to China. However, first Fullerton
invites Bullit to the peace and quiet of his own home to write a
series of European affair articles. When Fullerton's adolescent
daughter Alice develops a crush on Bullit, her suitor, boyscout
Ken Warren, doesn't seem to stand a chance.
Mr. and Mrs. Fullerton, Ken Warren, and even Vincent Bullit
himself do their best to sway young Alice's feelings away from the
older man. It's a difficult task though, as she is at 'that certain age.'

The Great Waltz
THE GREAT WALTZ

(Biography | Drama | Music | Musical | Romance)
[1 hour 44 minutes]

In 1845 Vienna, Johann Strauss II - Schani to his friends - would
rather write and perform waltzes than anything else, this at a
time when a waltz is not considered proper society music. After
he is fired from his clerical bank job because of his preoccupation
with composing, he decides to follow his passion and form an
orchestra. After some famed opera singers, including Carla Donner,
hear his music, they expose Schani's music to the masses, to
royalty and to music publisher Julius Hofbauer. As such, Schani
becomes the toast of Vienna. With his new found musical fame,
Schani's life, which includes his work in the European Revolutions,
changes. He becomes torn for his love for his loving and faithful
wife Poldi Vogelhuber and his more emotionally passionate but
somewhat destructive love for Carla Donner, who herself is
involved with Count Anton Hohenfried.

A musical comedy duo in their 6th year on Broadway receive
an offer to perform in Hollywood making films. The change
of lifestyle is inviting to the Sweethearts as the move will

them in countless performances. However, when it comes to
signing their Hollywood contract they do not sign as Gwen

Mr. Mason is a salesman at Detridge & Frome who wants to
advertise their line of riding clothes. Since they have the
rights to famous jockey Peter Randall, who is in Australia,
Peter will impersonate him at the Steeple Chase. At the event,
he is invited to a party by Cora and sees young Ellen. Since
all Ellen and Peter have in common is horses, he continues the
charade to woo her. But two gamblers named Maxie and Duke,
try to make money on the race by fixing him up with the wild
